Troubleshooting

The most common issues are connection, scope and permission problems. Work through the sections below in order.

“Organization URL is invalid” or “URL must start with https://dev.azure.com/”

The dashboard only connects to Azure DevOps Services. Check that the URL begins with https://dev.azure.com/ and includes your organization name (for example https://dev.azure.com/contoso). On-premises Azure DevOps Server instances are not supported. If you type a bare organization name, the dashboard expands it to the full URL for you.

“Failed to fetch” or nothing loads

  • Check that you are online and can reach https://dev.azure.com in a separate tab.
  • The dashboard requires JavaScript and calls Azure DevOps directly from your browser, so it needs network access to dev.azure.com.
  • If a corporate proxy or firewall filters Azure DevOps traffic, the same restrictions apply to the dashboard.

Authentication failures (401)

  • The personal access token may have expired - create a new one.
  • The token may belong to a different organization or user than the URL you entered.
  • Sign out and sign in again with a freshly copied token.

Permission errors (403) or empty lists

  • The token needs read scopes for Work Items, Project and Team, and Code. A token with missing scopes loads some data but not others.
  • An empty project list usually means the account holding the token cannot see any projects in that organization.
  • An empty Recent Items list can mean the filters are too narrow - widen the time window or clear the status and assignee filters.

Notifications do not appear

  • Notifications require browser permission. Check the browser settings for this site and allow notifications.
  • The dashboard can only notify while it is open in a tab.
  • Some browsers suppress notifications on sites without a secure (HTTPS) connection; the dashboard is served over HTTPS.

I want to start over

Sign out from the dashboard to clear your credentials, or clear this site's data in your browser settings. Nothing is stored on a DevOps Navigator server, so there is nothing else to delete.

Still stuck?
