FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about how DevOps Navigator works, what it reads, and how your credentials are handled.
- Is DevOps Navigator free?
- Yes. It is free to use with your own Azure DevOps organization. There are no paid tiers and no account to create.
- Does it store my data on a server?
- No. DevOps Navigator has no backend and no database. Your credentials stay in your browser’s storage, and every API request goes directly from your browser to Microsoft’s Azure DevOps APIs.
- What do I need to connect?
- Your Azure DevOps organization URL (for example https://dev.azure.com/your-org) and a personal access token with read permissions for Work Items, Project and Team, and Code.
- Can DevOps Navigator change my Azure DevOps data?
- No. The dashboard is read-only. It never creates, updates or deletes work items, code, changesets or anything else in your organization.
- Does it work with Azure DevOps Server (on-premises)?
- No. The dashboard connects to Azure DevOps Services organizations on dev.azure.com. It does not support on-premises Azure DevOps Server instances.
- Can I connect more than one organization?
- One organization at a time. Sign out and sign in with a different organization URL to switch.
- What scopes should my personal access token have?
- Read scopes only: Work Items (Read), Project and Team (Read), and Code (Read). A read-only token is safer and all the dashboard needs.
- How do I remove my credentials?
- Sign out from the dashboard, which clears the token from browser storage, or clear the site’s data in your browser settings.
- Does it send my token anywhere besides Azure DevOps?
- No. The token is used only in requests to Microsoft’s Azure DevOps endpoints. DevOps Navigator embeds no third-party analytics or tracking.
- What browsers are supported?
- Any modern browser with JavaScript, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Notifications require a browser and OS that support the Notifications API.
- How do notifications work?
- With permission, the dashboard shows browser notifications for new work items, comments and changesets while it is open. Nothing is sent to a push service by DevOps Navigator itself.
- Can I use it offline?
- The dashboard works as a progressive web app and offers an offline page, but browsing Azure DevOps data always requires a connection to the Azure DevOps APIs.
